Vegetative Roofing
Vegetative roofs involve growing plants, shrubs, and trees on a roofing system. These roofs require increased structural capacity but provide a pleasant setting and help reduce storm water runoff.
There are two types of systems: intensive and extensive. Intensive roofs may include trees and shrubs in a layer of 8"+ media. These require maintenance and are typically public park areas. Extensive areas may include low growth plantings (sedum, herbs, mosses, etc.) and are usually drought tolerant. The soil media is generally 6" or less.
